Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ!

I have been the full time pastor here at Lakefield Baptist Church since September 2012. I am married to Carolyn, and we have four lovely children, Hannah, Noah, Gabriel and Joshua. We moved to Lakefield from Vancouver where I spent four years at Regent College completing a Master’s of Divinity.

I was not raised in the church, but came to faith in Jesus Christ as an adult. While in High School and University, if someone would have asked me if I believed in God, I would have said 'yes.' Through observing the order and the beauty of creation, I could not deny that there was such a thing as a Creator God, but growing up, I had no idea that I could have a relationship with the Creator God. After University, I spent three years travelling and working abroad, and during this time I started reading the gospels. I struggled to understand how a person living two-thousand years ago could affect my life. Yet at the same time, I was intrigued by Jesus: the way he spoke about his Father in Heaven, the way he interacted with individuals, the way he taught with authority, and his miraculous deeds. On February 7th 2003, I was particularly anxious about the direction my life was going. I felt like I was spinning in circles, making the same mistakes over and over again, unable to break free from a number of addictions, and feeling helpless and lost. So, I started to pray. I wasn’t sure exactly who I was praying to, but I meant business, in fact, I was quite angry with the big guy upstairs (as I used to call him). I laid it all out, I told him how I felt, and in my frustration I said the words “If you are real, then show me who you are”…the moment I said these words, he did. I don't have the words to articulate what was happening in me. The only way I can describe it is love. The living God was filling me with His love. I had never experienced anything like it before. All of the chaos and frustration I was feeling melted away in God's presence, and I heard him speaking in the depths of my soul “Let go of your life, I am going to show you who you are by showing you who I am.” Shortly after this I took an Alpha course where I learned about the relationship between Jesus and His Father and the Holy Spirit, and how I fit into God’s story.

I have been following Jesus since I was twenty-five and I have a passion for helping others see and follow Jesus. My role as pastor at Lakefield Baptist Church is to open up the word through preaching and teaching, administer the Lord’s Supper and Baptism, train and equip the congregation in following Jesus, and to encourage each person in their spiritual journey in Christ.

I would love to connect with you to hear your story!
