The concept of membership within the Baptist tradition  emerges out of the New Testament understanding of individuals joining the corporate Body of Christ (Acts 8:14-17; Acts 18:24-27; 1 Corinthians 12:13ff)

We affirm the universal reality of the church as all those who trust and follow Jesus Christ as Lord, regardless of denomination (John 17), but the focus within the Baptist tradition is the local church, as the unique expression of God’s presence in the world.

The local Baptist congregation are a group of individuals who have heard and accepted the gospel of Jesus Christ (Mark 1:15), they have entered into the new way of living according to the Holy Spirit (Regeneration and Sanctification), and they are committed to sharing life together with other believers (Fellowship, Baptism, the Lord’s Supper), and participating in the mission of God in the world of making disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:16-20).
